Yoga teacher training - Module 1

Yoga Sutras - journal

Yamas
Ahimsa - nonviolence
Satya - truthfulness
Asteya - not taking from others
Brahmacarya - conservation of vital energy
Aparigraha - non-possessiveness

Of the above Yamas the one I need to improve on is Satya. I am aware I don't lie bluntly about anything on purpose of to evade the truth. But there are times I do say "white" lies for reasons such as not to prolong a conversation. I realize it the very next moment that I just said a white lie and cringe about it but trying to set things right and tell the truth seems too much work at times so I just ignore it for the time being and tell myself that saying that white lie did not make me feel good so I don't want to do that again.
so that is why Satya is an area I see myself conscious about.

Variragya is almost another name for Yama, because not only does it mean nonattachment, it also means a sensible regulation, control or restraint which is required to live moment to moment with awareness in any Yama.
when one is aware of oneself and understands it's the same awareness in all the world around then a sense of Ahimsa, Asteya and Aparigraha prevails out of that very awareness, so one would not harm another because it would only mean one is inflicting harm to oneself. And it is the the same awareness which is truth. When one is aware, one is truth itself. Truth does not lie, you need another (the false Ego) to create lie.
And brahmacarya is the essence of compassion towards oneself. And I feel this is the most difficult of the Yamas to practice. Learning the fine line between loving oneself and being compassionate and sensible. But I did not mention this Yama as the one I need to improve because it's a long way there. But first I have to be in truth from moment to moment and then compassion with follow allowing brahmacarya to blossom naturally out of this compassion rather than something that is forced by my mind on my body.

Given the fact that awareness on oneself allows the Yamas to blossom on their own I don't see when any of these Yamas could seem inappropriate. As these are truth there seems to be no conflict in them in any situation.
